About the Take Over

Ever wanted to run your own festival? Well, what are you waiting for?

Take Over the Corn Exchange! is an opportunity for under-25s to plan, programme and run your own festival weekend in the Corn Exchange. We’ll give you a budget and as much support and advice as you want, and the building is yours to do what you will for the weekend of 17/18 April 2010.

You can set up gigs, shows, film screenings, workshops, clubs and anything else you can think of. This is your chance to put on the event that you’ve always wanted!

The story so far

Our motley and over-excitable band of young people have been plotting and planning since September '09 to programme their festival, working with Corn Exchange staff to learn about putting on arts events.Along the way we've talked about marketing, budgeting, how to manage technical work and a great deal more.

The festival programme has emerged out of these discussions. All the important decisions have been made as a group, so this really is a festival that belongs to everyone involved!

What happens next

The festival weekend will be taking place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 April. Our full programme is online on this blog and the Corn Exchange website, and between now and then we will be putting the finishing touches to our plans, making sure that everything's ready and generally getting on with the business of running a festival.

After the Take Over we are hoping to establish something more permanent for young people to be involved with the Corn Exchange. The exact shape of this isn't yet clear, but it might be a group who programme events each year or each season at the venue. If you are interested please contact Sam Sampson, Corn Exchange Learning Manager.
